Northern Lehigh students to present spring musical

Show business isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Evidence of the hardships that exist in the entertainment industry will be acted out when the Northern Lehigh High School Little Theater Association presents its spring musical. The three-day musical, "Gypsy", will show at 7 p.m. tonight, 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, and 7 p.m. Sunday in the high school auditorium.Based on the memoirs of the famous burlesque performer Gypsy Rose Lee, "Gypsy" is "a classic that features complex characters to challenge the students artistic abilities," according to Charles Weigold III, director.Weigold said Ms. Lee centers her story around her pushy stage mom, Rose, who forced her children into show business in order to live her own dreams. The cast includes Maggie Surdovel as Rose, Sydney Martin as Louise, Ben Yenser as Herbie, Alexis Middaugh as June and Nate Rex as Tulsa, Weigold said."I want my students to captivate this wonderful story about family and the enormous choices made based on "passion"," he said. "I wish for our audience to realize how powerful a relationship between a parent and child is, and that "letting go" is a part of growing up; that includes allowing a child to explore his or her own dreams."
