The Tamaqua Public Library is gearing up for spring with a variety of activities, including some spring cleaning.Spring story time sessions are scheduled to begin March 12-13. Sessions are open to preschoolers, ages 2-6, and are held Mondays and Tuesdays, from 10-11 a.m. The weekly meetings will conclude the week of April 16.For more information, or to register, call (570) 668-4660.Thanks to the generosity of local book lovers, the library's shelves are overflowing with donated books. To make space for new arrivals, volunteers and staff members have been "cleaning" the shelves and are conducting an ongoing used book sale, just in time for March Madness. Additional items, such as VHS tapes, books on cassette and books on CD are also available.The library is currently featuring the art work of Jeff Rimm of Tamaqua. Rimm's work includes photographs, watercolors and pen, ink and pencil artwork. The work depicts many local areas, such as the Tamaqua Train Station and locations in Rush Township.Calvary UMTerry Gerber, lay leader, will officiate at this Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, a praise, worship and Bible study session will be held at 6:30 p.m.St. Peter's UnionThe Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include Holy Communion and will be followed by a breakfast.Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 11 a.m. and Daisies, Brownies and Cub Scouts meet at 6 p.m.Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, Sunday school teachers and officers will meet at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, midweek Lenten service at 7:30 p.m. at Ben Salem Church; Thursday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., worship and music committee meets at 6 p.m. and the senior choir rehearses at 7:30 p.m.St. John UCCThe Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. The service will be followed by a time of fellowship. Sunday school classes for all ages will be held at 11 a.m.The weekly radio program will be aired on WASH - AM1410, at 11:30 a.m.Activities for next week will include: Monday, consistory will meet at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, midweek Lenten service at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity UCC.Lenten servicesThe Tamaqua Ministerium is sponsoring a series of interdenominational Midweek Lenten services.All of the services will be held at noon with a light luncheon to follow.The schedule includes: March 7, Primitive Methodist, 55 Hunter St.; March 14, First United Methodist, 124 W. Broad St.; March 21, Tamaqua Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St.; and March 28, St. Jerome's Catholic, 266 W. Broad St.The public is welcome to attend any and all of the services.
