Nine placed in Carbon's special probation program

Nine first time defendants in criminal cases were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition (ARD) probation program this week.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program their record his wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete the conditions, or are revoked from it, the Commonwealth reserves the right to prosecute them on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the programAll were placed for a year, unless ottherwise noted.Placed by Senior Judge Richard W. Webb were:Jared A. Bailey, 22, of Emmaus, was placed on a charge of fleeing police. He was arrested on Aug. 5, 2011, along SR248 in Palmerton. Police attempted to stop him for speeding while operating a motorcycle. He did not stop and fled with speeds reaching 120 miles-per-hour during the chase.Webb ordered he pay $350 for the program and render 25 hours of community service.Gage Duch, 18, of Lehighton, was placed on a charge of burglary. He was arrested on Sept. 20, 2011, for entering the Boulevard Restaurant along Blakeslee Blvd., in Lehighton.He was ordered to pay $500 for the program and render 25 hours of community service.Robert James Hoffman, 36, of Weissport, was placed on a charge of endangering the welfare of children. He was arrested on March 1, 2011, by state police for an incident in which an 10-year-old female was the victim.He was ordered to pay $500 for the program and render 25 hours of community service.Chrisotpher Allen Ohl, 35, of Jim Thorpe, was placed on a charge of recklessly endangering another person. He was arrested on Oct. 9, 2011, by state police at Fern Ridge for an incident at his residence along Cold Spring Drive in Penn Forest Township.Webb ordered he pay $350 for the program and render 15 hours of community service.Placed by Judge Steven R. Serfass were:Matthew Hausman, 24, of Jim Thorpe, was placed on a charge of siimple assault. He was arrested on Nov. 6, 2011, by Jim Thorpe police for an incident involving Jared Novy as the victim and occurring in the area of 402 South St.He was placed for 18 months and ordered to pay $350 for the program, make restitution of $2,921.50, render 50 hours of community service, and have no contact with the victim.Nicholas Sterling Minnich, 22, of Parryville, was placed on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on Oct. 26, 2011, by Lehgithon police in the 1000 block of N. First St.He was ordered to pay $350 for the program and render 50 hours of community service.Stephen M. Podrasky Jr., 26, of Northampton, was placed on a charge of driving under the influence (DUI). He was arrested on Sept. 24, 2011, along Mauch Chunk St., in Mahoning Township. Given a test, the result was .12BAC.Serfass ordered he pay $400 for the program, get a D&A evaluation, license suspended for 30 days, and render 50 hours of community service.Douglas J. Rimbey, 35, of Lehighton, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on Nov. 18, 2011, along SR209 in Lehighton. Given a test, the result was .17BAC.He was ordered to pay $450 for the program, get a D&A evaluation, license suspended for 60 days, and render 50 hours of community service.Stephanie Roman, 27, of Albrightsville, was placed on a charge DUI. She was arrested on Oct. 24, 2011, along Bankway in Lehighton. Give a test, the result was .11BAC.She was ordered to pay $400 for the program, get a D&A evaluation, license suspended for 30 days, and render 50 hours of community service.Each defendant must also pay court costs, which average close to $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
