Eleven enter guilty pleas

Eleven person facing various criminal charges entered guilty pleas on Tuesday in Carbon County court.

Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted the pleas from the following:James Robert Ace, 32, of Saylorsburg, pleaded to one count each of driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol, and summary offenses of restraint systems (no seat belt), and careless driving.He was arrested on May 27, 2011, along SR209 in Franklin Township by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was .12BAC.Matika sentenced him to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $300, one year license suspension, get a drug and alcohol (D&A) evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, and render 25 hours of community service. On the summary offenses he was fined a total of $35 and costs.He will begin the jail term at 6 p.m. on Jan. 27 and serve it on consecutive weekends.Michael Thomas Bailey, 43, of McAdoo, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on Aug. 30, 2008, along SR940 in East Side Boro by state police at Fern Ridge. Given a test, the result was .22BAC.Bailey was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition (ARD) probation program for first time offenders but was revoked for violating conditions.Matika sentenced him to served 48 hours to five months in jail, a fine of $500, license suspended for a year, and get a D&A evaluation. He was given credit for serving 156 days in prison on the charge and was immediately paroled.Adam Christopher Berger, 18, of Bowmanstown, pleaded guilty to one count each of underage drinking and violation of rules on Commonwealth property. He was arrested on March 25, 2011, at Beltzville State Park, Franklin Township by park rangers.Matika imposed fines totaling $1,400 and costs.Christopher Lee Crook, 22, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count of DUI, a first offense. He was arrested on Sept. 2, 2011, along Delaware Avenue in Palmerton by borough police. Given a test, the result was .13BAC.Matika placed him on probation for six months and ordered he pay a fine of $300, get a D&A evaluation, and render 25 hours of community service. On two motor vehicle code violations he was fined a total of $275 and costs.Jason Scott Dunbar, 30, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count each of resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on Oct. 27, 2011, in the area of 398 Canal St., in Franklin Township, by township police.On the resisting charge Matika sentenced him to time served (89 days) to one year in jail, and ordered he get a both D&A and mental health evaluations, and imposed zero tolerance on D&A use. On the possession count he was placed on probation for six months, concurrent to the first count.James Jude Gregory, 24, of Weatherly, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on Sept. 26, 2011, along SR902 in Summit Hill by borough police. Given a test, the result was .21BAC.Matika sentenced him to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $300, license suspended for a year, get a D&A evaluation, zero tolerance on D&A use, and render 25 hours of community service.He will begin the jail term on Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. and serve it on consecutive weekends.Stephen Joel Kenion, 26, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance-heroin. He was arrested on Dec. 20, 2011, by state police at Lehighton at his residence.Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered he get a D&A evaluation, zero tolerance on D&A use, and render 50 hours of community service. He was given credit for nine days spent in jail on the charge.Matthew Montanari, 31, of Slatington, pleaded to one count of receiving stolen property. He was arrested on July 14, 2011, by Palmerton police for the theft of jewelry from Allan Montanari.Matika placed him on probation for 18 months and ordered he get a D&A evaluation, make total restitution of $1,1,260, and render 75 hours of community service. The sentence runs consecutive to one he is currently serving in Lehigh County.Francis Lee Moyer II, 56, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on June 24, 2011, along SR248 in Parryville by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was .11BAC. It was a first offense.Matika placed him on probation for six months and ordered he pay a fine of $300, get a D&A evaluation, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, and render 25 hours of community service.Brian Keith O'Connell, 44, of Bowmanstown, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on July 2, 2011, along Mauch Chunk Road in Palmerton by borough police. Given a test, the result was .23BAC.Matika sentenced him to serve 90 days to five years in jail, a fine of $1,500, license suspended for 18 months, get a D&A evaluation, zero tolerance on D&A use, and render 50 hour of community service. He will serve 30 days in jail and the remaining 60 in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program (IPP) with electronic monitoring. He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. on Jan. 30, and was granted work release privileges.Orlando Quinones, 28, of Kennett Square, Chester County, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on Sept. 9, 2011, along the turnpike in Kidder Township by state police at Pocono. Given a test, the result was .15BAC.Matika sentenced him to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $300, one year license suspension, get a D&A evaluation, zero tolerance on D&A use, and render 25 hours of community service.He will begin the jail term at 6 p.m. on Feb. 20.Each defendant must also pay court costs, which average close to $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
