Icy road results in Hometown crash this morning

Emergency responders were called to the 200 block of Mahanoy Avenue (SR54) in Hometown around 6:45 this morning after the driver, Michael Ulinitz Jr., of a blue Dodge Ram truck, who was driving east, lost control on icy roads and flipped his vehicle near the intersection of Kahler Avenue. Emergency personnel were seen slipping on the ice. Responding were Rush Township Police, Tamaqua Rescue, Rush Township Fire Company, Quakake Fire Company and others. Rush Township Fire Police closed that part of SR54 while PennDOT workers laid salt. Roads throughout our area this morning were hit with a quick freeze as warmer temperatures last night melted snow, while a short burst of colder temperatures this morning made roads throughout our area very slick. Rush Township Cpl. Duane Frederick is the investigating officer. No injuries were reported.
