Schuylkill man used box cutter in slashing

State police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks have arrested a Schuylkill County man on attempted homicide charges following an incident Wednesday when he sliced his girlfriend's throat.

Joshua Thurman, 25, of the Village of Spring Glen, Hubley Township, was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Carol Pankake of Tremont and committed to the Schuylkill Counbty Prison, Pottsville, in lieu of $250,000 straight bail.Police said he is charged with criminal attempt to commit homicide, aggarvated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats and possession of drug paraphernalia.The incident happened between 9:50 and 10:50 p.m. Wednesday at 34 Schoolhouse Road in Spring Glen.Police identified the victim as Natalie Barr, 33, also of Spring Glen. Police said victim and Thurman are girlfriend and boyfriend who were on the front porch of their residence when Thurman attacked the woman for no known reason. Police said he used a box cutter that he had on his person to slice Barr's throat.Police said she was knocked to the ground, at which time Thurman began to strike her about the head and face. The assault was stopped by an intervening neighbor.Police said the woman was transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center East, Pottsville, where she was treated and later released.
