A 25-year-old licensed practical nurse at Palmerton Hospital won the 1987 New Year's Baby Sweepstakes by a mile, giving birth to a 7-pound, 11-ounce baby girl just three hours after 1987 arrived. Kim Steigerwalt of Palmerton had Jaeda Michele at 3:08 a.m. on Jan. 1 at the Palmerton Hospital. The Palmerton Diamond Jubilee Committee, the town's 75th anniversary celebration committee, will store photographs of the Jubilee baby along with memorabilia in the town's time capsule, which will be opened for the community's 15th anniversary in 2062.
