Marine earns her wings

Published October 26. 2012 05:02PM

Marine Pvt. Rachel Garrison has graduated from the Army jump school at Ft. Benning GA and earned her wings.

At 18, she was the youngest in her company, one of only seven women, and the only female Marine. While there she learned how to properly pack a parachute, exit a plane in flight, and land without injury. This required many hours of mental and physical training.

Then the final test was to successfully jump from an airplane going 130 mph at 1200 feet five times!

Pvt Garrison is currently attending a 12 week parachute riggers school at Ft Lee VA. While there she will learn how to build and maintain many types of parachutes and related equipment.
