Pleasant Valley school district

A new scholarship will be available for seniors graduating from Pleasant Valley High School this year.

School board Treasurer Laura Jecker told the board Thursday night that she would prefer to give the $1,000 treasurer position stipend back to the school district to use as a scholarship. She also suggested dividing the money to create two or more scholarships. Her fellow board members agreed with her that this was a good idea and approved it.

The scholarship is only for seniors graduating this school year.

The board also approved the following employment related requests:

• Addition to current assignment: Dianne Caretta and Maritza Martely-Boasci will take on the duties as substitute secretaries;

• Hiring of support staff: Louis Cannarella, custodian, PVES; Mark Martini, maintenance building, district; Alison Zacharias, custodian, PVIS; Lucann Burke, food service employee, PVES;

• Hiring of support staff substitutes: Lauren McMaster, paraprofessional associate;

• Resignations: Carolina Nunes Rosa, paraprofessional associate PVHS; James Percey, Chess Club adviser PVHS;

• Retirement: Diane Siani, supervisor of special education, PVIS; Diane Martinetti, school nurse, PVMS;

• Athletic volunteer: Brent Dorshimer, softball;

• Supplemental contracts: Non-athletic: Julius Sarkozy, accompanist, PVHS;

• Non-athletic volunteer: Donna Morris, musical, PVHS, and;

• Intramural advisers, club/activity: Senior Cyber Portfolio, Melissa Ruschak, adviser, and Jennifer Keller, co-adviser, PVHS; Boys Soccer: Alex Wunder.
