Fillies clinch D-11 berth
Marian picked up a softball victory on Saturday that not only secured a District 11 postseason berth, but also put the Fillies in a playoff for the Schuylkill League Division III title.
Marian rode the pitching of Bethany Shaud to a 7-0 Schuylkill League win over Shenandoah Valley.
The victory not only secures the Fillies (10-9, 6-7) a berth in the district playoffs, but combined with Mahanoy Area's win over Nativity on Sunday, also puts the Fillies in a tie atop the Schuylkill League Division III standings with the Golden Bears. The two teams are scheduled to meet in a playoff today at 4:30 p.m. at Tamaqua to decide the division title. The winner will qualify for the Schuylkill League playoffs, which will get underway on Wednesday at Blue Mountain.
Gabby Cann led the Fllies offensively with three hits. Lindsay Nemeth and Ashton Galasso both had two hits while Abbey Hill added a double.

Pleasant Valley posted a 6-3 non-league victory over Liberty.
Diane Klapatch led the offense for the Bears with a double, a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Rachel Sisco added an RBI single and Melissa Ejk was 2-for-4.
With the win, Pleasant Valley closes out regular season play at 15-5 overall and 11-1 in the league.
The Bears will take part in the MVC playoffs this week and the District 11 playoffs the following week.

Cassie Lapotsky struck out 16 batters to lead North Schuylkill to a 6-2 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.
Chey Bates had two hits for Tamaqua, which ends its season with a 3-9 league record and a 3-17 mark overall.

Liberty prevailed in a non-league battle with Pleasant Valley, downing the Bears, 7-3.
James Bertolotti led the Hurricane offense with two hits and two RBIs.
For Pleasant Valley, Adrian Concepcion finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and Dan Hrbek added a hit and two RBIs.

Frank Nietz and Dylan Latham led the Colts offensively with three htis apiece. Zack Motil and Mike Cataldo added two hits apiece and John Sulivan chipped in a single and two RBIs.
The Colts (10-7, 7-5) banged out 13 hits in the game and also benefitted from six Blue Devil errors.

Jonathan Green and Jake Damiter combined to toss a four-hitter as North Schuylkill blanked Tamaqua, 3-0.
The game was scoreless heading into the seventh, but Green and Derek Reed both picked up RBI singles as the Spartans scored three runs to pull out the win.
Matt Roberts had two hits for the Raiders, who finished the season with a record 4-8 in the league and 5-15 overall.
Josh Zehner pitched a strong game in a losing effort for Tamaqua. Zehner took a one-hitter into the seventh inning and allowed just three hits in the game.
