Tamaqua driver has high BAC

Coaldale police have charged a Tamaqua man with drunken driving and other charges.

Brandon L. Fritz, 26, of 233 Catawissa St., faces two counts of driving under the influence (DUI), speeding, failing to have registration and proof of insurance,Fritz was pulled over at on Route 209 at 4:40 p.m. March 11 by Officer Joseph Krebs for driving 62 miles-per-hour in a 45 zone, and saw that his registration had expired in February.Upon speaking with Fritz, Krebs smelled a strong odor of alcohol, and noticed that Fritz had glossy, bloodshot eyes and that his speech was slurred.Fritz agreed to perform field sobriety tests, which he failed.Fritz' blood alcohol level was 0.35 percent.The threshold for drunken driving is 0.08 percent.
