Reading Anthracite mine tour planned

Schuylkill County was founded on the coal industry.

An upcoming community day will show that the industry is growing once again.The public is invited to join Reading Anthracite Company & West Spring Energy, LLC for Community Day on Saturday, March 31, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the New St. Nicholas Plant located at 46 West Mt. Laffee Road, Pottsville.Community Day will give visitors an opportunity to learn more about the industry that built Schuylkill County.Visitors will get an up close look at the new Komatsu PC4000 - 850,000 pound Komatsu hydraulic shovel. The day will also feature a tour of an operating coal mine where the latest advancements in the energy industry will be highlighted. Light refreshments will also be served.Parking for the event will be at the New St. Nicholas Plant, 46 West Mt. Laffee Road, Pottsville. There, visitors will board buses for round-trip transportation to the newly-opened West Spring Energy mine site. Estimated tour time is three hours.The cost for this event is free but reservations are required. You will be given a departure time at the time of your reservation.Reservation deadline is March 27, and the last tour will depart from New St. Nicholas Plant at 12:30 p.m. Rain date for this event is Saturday, April 14.
