Tamaqua man facing theft counts

Published February 21. 2012 05:01PM

Tamaqua police have cited a borough man with theft-related charges after he left a local pub with someone else's property.

Aaron Conahan contacted police to say that his green backpack and laptop computer were removed from Freddy's Pub, 16 Mauch Chunk St., sometime between 11 p.m. and midnight on Jan. 6.

Pub owner Larry Frederick told Conahan and officers that he saw the backpack that night and believed it belonged to a patron who regularly brought a backpack into the establishment. Frederick picked up the backpack and gave it to that man, identified as Dennis Potwin, 58, of 222 E. Broad St.

Conahan approached Potwin about the theft on Jan. 10. Potwin returned the backpack to Conahan but refused to say what had happened to the computer, insisting he did not have it.

Patrolman Michael Hobbs has charged Potwin with theft of property lost, mislaid or delivered by mistake, as well as receiving stolen property.
