Kidder Environmental Advisory Council holds Dec. meeting

Published December 13. 2012 05:04PM

The Kidder EAC held its final meeting of the year on Wednesday evening. Chairman Frank Gilotti produced a copy of "EAC Happenings" from 2006.

The "EAC Happenings" was a year-end summary in the form of a newsletter, which the EAC had distributed in the past.

"It's definitely something we should do again. We need to put together a summary of what we have accomplished this year for the township supervisors. This might be a nice way to do that and get the information out to the residents as well," suggested council member Bob Dobosh.

Council member Cathy Golomb was tasked with putting the summary together. When complete, copies will be available at the township office.

The EAC is continuing to gather ideas for this year's spring workshop. The workshop will be held sometime in May and will feature speakers and demonstrations on topics related to the abundance of nature found in Kidder Township.

Dobosh briefly discussed the "Dark Sky Initiative." He pointed out that there are movements toward developing ordinances which limit light pollution in Pennsylvania. He specifically cited Mt. Pocono as already having instituted such an ordinance.

"I believe that the state is moving in that direction. Our planning commission already looks at lighting. But we will eventually need to address it in an ordinance," said Dobosh.

Golomb made a suggestion that Kidder reach out to other local EACs to get a better understanding as to what they may be working on. She also suggested that inviting members of other environmental advisory councils to the spring workshop might be a good way to open a dialogue.

The Kidder EAC meets every second Wednesday of the month at the Kidder Township building.
