Author to visit Jim Thorpe

Mary McNally Ratto, of the Poconos and author of the suspense novel "The Cain Sanction," will be at the Dimmick Library Friends House during its book sale on Saturday, Dec. 8 from noon to 4 p.m. Ratto will be talking about and signing copies of "The Cain Sanction," a political thriller involving a retired FBI agent, a presidential candidate's headquarters, murder and treachery, and a treasonous conspiracy that threatens to take down the American political system.

Tree lighting

A Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Sam Miller Athletic Field, North Avenue. The event is sponsored by the Jim Thorpe Community Athletic Association. There will be gifts for the children, along with free hot chocolate and cookies for those attending. The rain date is Sunday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m.


The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at Memorial Hall on Wednesday, Dec. 19, from 1-6 p.m. Donors must be 17 years of age and older.

Milk and cookies with Mrs. Claus

St. Joseph Regional Academy, 25 W. Sixth St., Jim Thorpe, will host a free milk and cookies with Mrs. Claus event at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11. Snow date is Dec. 12. Children will receive their picture with Mrs. Claus, decorate their own cookie, do a coloring page, and enjoy some stories while eating cookies and milk.
