Work continues on Rt. 248 bridge

Daytime lane closures will temporarily restrict traffic this week along a portion of State Route 248 as bridge work continues.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists that Walsh Construction will establish bidirectional and intermittent single-lane patterns on Route 248 this week between 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the protection of workers and traffic during overhead bridge work on the Lehigh River Bridge.The contractor will continue installing shielding underneath the old Lehigh River Bridge in preparation of future demolition activities. Daytime lane closures will be in effect on Route 248 as follows: Westbound right lane shoulder closed Monday-Tuesday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., westbound left lane closed Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Thursday, 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., eastbound left lane closed Thursday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Friday, 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., and eastbound right lane and shoulder closed Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.This work and associated daytime lanes closures will continue the week of Dec. 19, between 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., until the underdeck shielding is completed. The single-lane traffic restrictions are about mile long between State Street and Center Street on Route 248 in Parryville.Motorists should be prepared for slow-moving or stopped traffic when approaching the area until all crews and equipment are off the roadway. Obey posted speed limits and stay alert for construction vehicles entering and exiting the roadway.All work is weather permitting, and could be rescheduled. Please visit
