Woman's body found in river near Rockport

A woman's body was found yesterday in the Lehigh River, in Lehigh Gorge State Park near Rockport Road, in Carbon County.

State police at Hazleton barracks are seeking help from the public in identifying the woman.Trooper Christopher Hill of Troop N, Hazleton, the investigating officer, said an autopsy is expected to be done today to determine how the woman died.Her body was found in the river at about 11:25 a.m. at an area near Lehigh Gorge State Trail East of Rockport Road.Trooper Hill said the victim was wearing black AVIA toning shape-up shoes.She was wearing blue athletic pants with a double stripe down each pant leg. She also was wearing a sweater with a dark-colored coat and scarf. On the coat was a pinned flower pendant, red and silver in color.The woman also had a wedding band and a diamond ring on her left hand.Anyone with information on the identity of the woman is asked to contact Trooper Hill at the Hazleton barracks at 570-459-3890.The Lehigh Gorge State Park trail is a 26 mile passage that stretches from Jim Thorpe to White Haven. Rockport is just east of Weatherly, and south of White Haven.The trail is especially popular to hiker, bicyclists, and joggers.
