Both northbound and southbound traffic were backed up for miles and one person was injured during a two vehicle accident that occurred yesterday evening on SR309, north of the Owl Creek intersection, in Tamaqua. Reportedly, James Neary, Mahanoy City, driving a green Jeep Wrangler, was stopped behind traffic on SR309 northbound, when Thomas Deisenroth, Drums, driving a 2010 Dodge Avenger, also northbound, struck the rear of the Jeep. A passenger, Greg Rolland, also from Drums, in the Dodge was taken via Tamaqua Ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital. Firefighters, police and fire police controlled traffic in the rain while both vehicles were towed from the scene. Investigating officer Karl Harig stated, "Weather played a role in the incident and charges will be filed following the investigation." Traffic was noted by drivers to be backed up at both the SR209/SR309 and SR443 /SR309 intersections. Responding were Tamaqua Police, firefighters, ambulance and fire police.
