St. Ann Society Branch 140 of the FCSLA will hold its annual Christmas dinner on Dec. 4 at the Lantern in Nesquehoning. Deadline for reservations is Nov. 24.Summit HillLions ClubThe Summit Hill Lions Club will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 6 p.m. at the Tamaqua Train Station. The guest speaker will be Sen. Dave Argall.Members will also be discussing the upcoming Christmas party, which is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 11.Members are reminded to make their reservation for next week's meeting by Nov. 17 by contacting Judy Midas or Tom Ponting.Historical societyThe Summit Hill Historical Society will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the fire company.Among the matters to be discussed are the society's relocation to the former Jean McFadden Grocery Store on West Ludlow Street. Other items on the agenda include newsletter articles, Bob Gormley's historical items and taking possession of a restored Switchback car.The society members have been invited to participate in a joint Christmas party with members of the Summit Hill Heritage Center and the GAR Committee. It is set for Dec. 14 at the heritage center.The next meeting of the society will take place on Jan. 18, 2012.Food pantryThe Summit Hill Food pantry will hold its pre-Thanksgiving distribution of food on Monday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. to noon. Eligible persons who normally receive the items are reminded to bring their own bags for "extras" that will be distributed with the boxes.LansfordAMVETS programsThe Lansford AMVETS Post and its affiliates are still collecting DVDs that will be sent to service men and women overseas. Persons desiring to donate the DVDs, which can be new or old, can drop them off in the slot inside the front door of the post home.The post is also participating in the Toys for Tots program, by accepting gifts for children in need. The gifts should be wrapped and have information on them regarding the age and or sex of the child that the gift is best suited for.The gifts can be dropped off at the box located at the post home.Anyone wishing to make monetary contributions to the program can do so by depositing it in a donation box the AMVETS has at the post.The deadline for monetary contributions and gifts is Dec. 10.The post is also participating in the trees for Troops program whereby Christmas trees will be shipped by Yenser's Tree Farm, Lehighton, to service men and women overseas. Anyone willing to make a donation toward the tree purchase can do so by putting it in the donation box located at the post.St. John LutheranSt. John Lutheran Church, Lansford, will hold an informal worship tonight at 7 o'clock in the church. This will be a spiritual, peaceful evening service with Holy Communion. All are welcome to this relaxed, brief musical evening prayer.
