Old Mauch Chunk Model Train Display will host "A Haunted Train Display" through Halloween - Monday, October 31. It is geared to "children of all ages" and will feature an old-fashioned Halloween celebration. This family-friendly attraction is located on the second floor of the Hooven Mercantile Building at 41 Susquehanna Street (Route 209) in Jim Thorpe, next to the Train Station.

Free trick-or-treats will be handed out to all children up to age 13 who visit the model train display in costume. These children - accompanied by a paying adult - will also be admitted free to the attraction. In addition, the celebration features a Halloween costume contest; miniature haunted houses and other fall-themed details on the model train display; spooky sounds and songs of Halloween; and more - all decorated for the "spooktacular" Halloween season!"This is NOT a haunted house, so nothing will jump out and scare you," said spokeswoman Erica Heery. "It's just good old-fashioned Halloween fun."Each guest who brings two non-perishable food items to the attraction will receive a $1 discount off the price of admission. In order to receive multiple discounts, each person in the party must present two non-perishable food items. All donations will be given to the community food pantry at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lehighton, a division of Shepherd House, Inc.Guests are encouraged to dress up in their favorite costume for the free Halloween costume contest- including adults. Photos of all who dress up will be posted on a special section of the attraction's website to be voted upon by guests to the website. The winner will receive a "spooktacular" award, a fun train-themed basket, an 8x10 photo, and the winning photo will be featured on the website.Open year-round since 1985, this highly-detailed model train display measures 47 feet by 22 feet and features 13 separate mainlines measuring 1,087 feet of track, with some engines pulling as many as 50 railroad cars; over 200 structures - including skyscrapers, houses, churches and stores; a burning building; an old-fashioned football stadium being prepared for a home town game; and much, much more.Located adjacent to the model train display, Old Mauch Chunk Hobby and Gift Shop is stocked with model railroading merchandise, souvenirs, and gift items.
