Ten enter guilty pleas in Carbon County court

Ten defendants in pending criminal cases entered guilty pleas on Thursday in Carbon County court.

Senior Judge Richard W. Webb accepted the pleas from the following:John J. Duke, 47, of Schnecksville, formerly of Lake Harmony, pleaded to two counts of driving under the influence (DUI), and one count each of driving under suspension-DUI related and recklessly endangering another person.Duke was arrested for DUI on Dec. 19, 2009, along SR209 in Franklin Township. Given a test, the result was .22BAC. In addition to the DUI count he was also charged with driving under suspension-DUI related.The second DUI arrest occurred on April 23, 2010, again in Franklin Township along SR248. Given a test, the result was .12BAC. In that case he was also charged with REAP.Duke told Webb he spent 241 days in a Salvation Army rehabilitation program in Philadelphia. He also spent 48 days in jail.Webb deferred sentencing so the adult probation office can determined the exact amount of credit Duke is entitled to for the rehab and jail term.Ronald Lamont Kunkle Jr., 40, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on Nov. 11, 2010, along Bridge St. in Lehighton after being involved in an accident. Given a test, the result was .23BAC.Webb sentenced him to serve 48 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $500, one year license suspension and must get a drug and alcohol (D&A) evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment. He began the jail term immediately.Blaine Alan Leiby, 41, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on May 19 along Mauch Chunk Road in Palmerton. Given a test, the result was .11BAC.Webb placed him on probation for six months and ordered he pay a fine of $300 and get a D&A evaluation.William Benjamin Fitzgerald, 30, of Albrightsville, pleaded to one count of DUI and two summary motor vehicle code violations. He was arrested on Feb. 15, 2010, along Meckesville Rd., in Penn Forest Township, after being involved in a one vehicle crash.Webb sentenced him to serve 48 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $500, one year license suspension, and get a D&A evaluation. On the summary offenses he was fined a total of $50 and costs.He begins the jail term at 7 p.m. on Oct. 22.Daniel David Kunkel, 46, of Kunkletown, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on Sept. 26, 2010, along SR209 in Franklin Township. Given a test, the result was .16BAC.Webb placed him on probation for six months and ordered he pay a fine of $300 and get a D&A evaluation.Kevin Hoffman, 50, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on May 29 along Blakeslee Blvd., in Mahoning Township. Given a test, the result was .23BAC.Webb placed him on probation for six months and ordered he pay a fine of $300 and get a D&A evaluation.Damian Eidem, 25, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of false identification to law enforcement. He was arrested on May 6 along Blakeslee Blvd. in Lehighton. He was a passenger in a vehicle and gave a false name and birth date to police.Webb placed him on probation for a year and ordered he render 20 hours of community service.William B. Maurer, 20, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of persistent disorderly conduct. He was arrested on Oct. 3, 2010, at his residence along Lentz Trail. He was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition (ARD) probation program for first time offenders but was revoked from it because he was arrested on a simple assault charge after placement.Webb imposed a fine of $300.John Phillip Ockenhouse, 22, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on June 6 in the Weissport Park. State police responded to the park for a report of a person down. They found a female unconscious and Ockenhouse kneeling over her. Ockenhouse told the troopers he and the female had injected heroin. The woman was attended to by medical personnel and has recovered.Webb placed him on probation for a year and ordered he get a D&A evaluation with zero tolerance on D&A use. He was given credit for 29 days spent in jail. He is still in jail and must have a pre-parole plan investigation by the adult probation office before he is released, Webb said.Nicholas R. Allesch, 20, of Coaldale, pleaded to one count of disorderly conduct, as a summary offense. He was arrested on Jan. 17 along Susquehanna St. in Jim Thorpe. A charge of possession of marijuana was dropped in a plea agreement.Webb imposed a fine of $100.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee.
