Bruce Wolfe, fire chief of Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Co. is seeking options for the fire company to replace an aging 1983 Mack tanker with a newer model.

Wolfe said that the Mack tanker is 28 years old and will not pass state inspection."The frame is rotting out," said Wolfe.Wolfe attended the Franklin Township supervisors meeting to invite the supervisors to a meeting with fire company officers to see what can be done to help the fire company replace the tanker."We are looking at every option," he said. "We have saved some money, have applied for grants and have no luck so far. We would like to sit down with you because you are our biggest funding source and go over the funding issues. We don't know if you can help, but we want to show you our records."Wolfe said that a new tanker would cost approximately $270,000 and would be approximately the same type of tanker as the old one."We paid $83,000 for the old tanker and we bought it new," said Wolfe.Wolfe said that the meeting would also meet the requirements that the fire company meet with local officials.Wolfe added that Franklin Township residents don't need to worry about fire protection."We have a mutual aid agreement with Mahoning Township and Parryville for tankers only," said Wolfe. "We are not without protection."Wolfe said that the new compressed air foam truck does help at fires using less water."When we use too much water, the foam is overwhelmed," he said.Chairman Rod Green said that the supervisors would attend a meeting at the fire station at 7 p.m. on Sept. 13.
