The August meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health was held at the municipal building with Randolph Gormley, James Gormley, Earl Boettger, Shirley Becker, Health Officer Judith Hadesty R.N. and Health Enforcement Officer James Barron in attendance.Barron reported making general inspections at the Dollar General Store and the Family Dollar Store; and spot check inspections at Turkey Hill Minit Mart, the Tamaqua Salvation Army, Burger King, East End Fire Company and the Citizen's Fire Company. He received and adjusted seven complaints: four for rubbish/garbage; two residences deemed unfit for human habitation; and one infestation.There were no cases of reportable diseases during July.The board meets the first Tuesday of each month, at 10 a.m., in the Tamaqua Municipal Building.Calvary EvangelicalCalvary Evangelical United Methodist Church continues hosting services and events at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle, 614 Valley Road. The Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at this Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.Also Sunday, an evening prayer and worship service will be held, with theological student Christopher Hafer, at 6 p.m.Next Wednesday, there will be an evening of prayer and sharing, beginning at 7 p.m.The Proclaimers Quartet will present a mini concert on Aug. 18, at 7 p.m. For more information, call (570) 617-2702.Free goodsThe New Life Blessing Shoppe, located at 407 Schuylkill Ave., will be open this Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The shoppe offers free clothing and household items to interested individuals.Zion LewistownThe Rev. Sunny Stock will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. A children's service will be included. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.Also on Sunday, a brief Consistory meeting will be held immediately following the worship service.South WardThe South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet Aug. 18, at 7 p.m., in the South Ward Community Center, at the South Ward Playground. The public is welcome to attend.Fall clean upSchuylkill County residents will have the opportunity to dispose of old tires, appliances, bulk items and electronics during the annual fall clean up campaign, scheduled for Sept. 19 and Sept. 26.The bi-annual SKIP Clean Up is scheduled for Sept. 17. The Tamaqua Beautification Association, Owl Creek Recreation Association, South Ward Neighborhood Committees and the Tamaqua Area School District will be participating. Interested volunteers are welcome to join the groups as the clean up the downtown, Owl Creek and South Ward sections of the borough. Additional areas could be targeted if there are enough volunteers.Residents and business owners may lend a hand by cleaning their respective sidewalks and properties that day.Garbage bags, safety vests, gloves and complimentary beverages will be provided. Trash bags must then be placed beside a state highway for collection purposes. Trash may also be disposed of in a dumpster located at the rear of the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E.
