Freed Fest: Rock'n'Roll For A Cure will be held Saturday from 4 to 11 p.m. at Schick's Cafe Calcutta, 50 Mauch Chunk St., in Tamaqua to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

It is being held in memory of Jim Freed, who lost his battle with leukemia in 2003. Freed had worked for the Tamaqua Area School District as a health and physical education teacher for 19 years. While at Tamaqua, he met his wife, Jean Freed, also a health and physical education teacher for the Tamaqua Area School District. Freed also coached football, swimming, and track and field for Tamaqua.Along with his wife, Freed has has one surviving brother, Charles Freed, of Marietta, Georgia, and two daughters, Jamie Freed of Brooklyn, New York, and Jody Kuehner of Hamburg.There is no cover charge for the event, which includes picnic foods, such as hamburgers, hot dogs, sausages from 4 to 8 p.m. Specialty drinks will be also with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.Bands to play include Geekamortis from 4 to 4:30 p.m., Shaun Mcgeehan from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m., Seventh Corvus from 6 to 7:15 p.m., Seven Theory from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., WonTon from 8:45 to 9:45 p.m. and Roadside Attraction from 10 to 11 p.m.In addition, Jody Kuehner, family member, is running in the Philadelphia ING Rock'n'Roll half marathon on September 18th as part of TEAM In Training. TEAM In Training is an organization that competes in half marathons, marathons, triathlons, and cycling events to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Jody's training schedule includes running three times per week and also three days of cross-training such as cycling, swimming, and strength training.
