A seven-day effort aimed at inspecting motor coaches at popular travel destinations in Pennsylvania resulted in 26 vehicles and 16 drivers being placed out of service, State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan announced.

Between May 15 and 21, Noonan said 369 motor coaches were inspected at casinos, amusement parks and other popular locations across the state."Motor coach crashes can be devastating and tragic events," Noonan said. "It's the goal of state police and our safety partners to ensure that bus passengers are being transported safely on our highways."The vehicles and drivers were placed out of service for a wide variety of safety violations, Noonan said, adding that four state police troops, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh police departments, and the U.S. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration took part in the operation.Following is a breakdown, by troop area, of the number of motor coaches inspected and the number of vehicles and drivers placed out of service by state police:• Troop B (Allegheny, Fayette, Greene and Washington counties), 49 inspections; five vehicles and four drivers placed out of service;• Troop H (Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Perry and York counties), 71 inspections; no vehicles placed out of service; two drivers placed out of service;• Troop J (Chester and Lancaster counties), 51 inspections; six vehicles and six drivers placed out of service;• Troop M (Bucks, Lehigh and Northampton counties), 40 inspections; eight vehicles placed out of service; four drivers placed out of service.
