Tamaqua church offers free items to community

Members and volunteers of the New Life Assembly of God Church in Tamaqua have come together to offer a new free community donation program called the New Life Blessings Shoppe at their church.

The Blessings Shoppe, held twice a month in a large bay located next to the church, offers thousands of free items to the community that otherwise would be thrown out, lost or not used. Some of the items consist of clothing, small appliances, knickknacks, jewelry, toys, shoes, handbags, pots, as well as many other items. The church started the community program last month as a way to reach and benefit the community by offering useful items for which they might have a need."The program isn't limited to low income, as anyone can stop by and take items they want," said Sashka Peterson, program coordinator."We also plan on providing free coffee and snacks," she added. If you have items you want to donate to the Blessings Shoppe, stop by the church, which is located at 407 Schuylkill Ave., or call (570) 668-4059.The church limits blessings to about five items per visit. The program is held the first and third Sunday of each month after their Sunday services, which start at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
