Jim Thorpe man injured in Hamburg crash

Richard Swartley, Jim Thorpe, was injured during an accident in which a car collided head-on with a dump truck at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on Route 61 in Hamburg.

According to police, Swartley and Richard Kennedy, 25, of Hazleton, were in the car. Police said they haven't decided who was driving. Neither man was wearing a seat belt, police said.Police said the car was traveling south when it hydroplaned and spun, crossing the median into the northbound lanes, where it collided with a dump truck driven by Robert Favinger, 48, of Boyertown.Kennedy was thrown from the vehicle. Favinger was not injured. He was wearing a seat belt, police said.The northbound lanes of Route 61 were closed for about three hours due to the accident. Traffic was detoured through Hamburg borough.
