Local volunteers are planning the annual 5k Run/Walk to raise money for the American Diabetes Association's diabetes research and education programs. The event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 13. The start/finish line will be at the Palmerton Borough Park, and registration will begin at 8 a.m.

There is a registration fee for the event, which will be donated to the ADA.Trophies will be given to fastest overall male and female runners. Medals will be given to the top three finishers in each age category. Walkers will be noncompetitive.Event organizers are looking for volunteers interested in helping plan the 5k and for volunteers to assist on the day of the event.For more information about volunteering or registering for the event, please call event coordinator Carla Majczan at (610) 390-2086.
