Lansford borough council at a special meeting Wednesday accepted the resignation of office clerk Bridget Cannon.

Council will send Cannon, whose resigned is effective May 27, for personal reasons, a letter of thanks.The loss will hit the office hard: secretary-treasurer Renee Slakoper tendered her resignation the same day, although it was not made public at the meeting.Slakoper has been working from home, coming in to the office for two hours a day, because of mold problems in the office. During those two hours, she tends to treasurer work.Assistant borough secretary Karen Burrell, who has been taking Slakoper's place at meetings, said Wednesday that she is swamped with work.However, due to Lansford's financial shortfalls, council agreed to not seek a replacement for Cannon.In other matters Wednesday, council hired A Hold on Mold LLC, of Greentown, Pike County, to remove the fungus from the borough offices at a cost of $2,565. The mold grew because of roof and chimney leaks.Council also agreed to have the borough engineer inspect the roof of the offices, located above the American Fire Co. on East Patterson Street, to develop specifications for repairs. Fixing the roof is crucial so that the mold does not return.Council has been discussing moving the offices to the community center at 1 East Ridge St. The building already houses the code enforcement and police departments. However, some council members have said there is also a mold problem there as well.Council also hired Mauch Chunk Chimney sweeps to clean and inspect the chimney in the office/fire company building.Also on Wednesday, councilman Tommy Vadyak took president Adam Webber to task for moving ahead with plans to change police schedules. That's the mayor's job, Vadyak said.Webber said he planned to present the plans to Mayor Ron Hood after council had discussed the proposal.
