Over 33,000 Carbon voters are eligible to vote

More than 1,000 Carbon County residents were removed from the official voter registration list when the county's election board certified the voting totals during a recent meeting.

Officially, there are 37,362 registered voters in the county, which is 1,059 less than there were for the General Election of 2010. The decrease in registrations is primarly due to the county's policy of purging voters who have been inactive in the election process.Prior to the certification of registration totals, persons who failed to vote in the past five years were purged from the system. Others were removed from the list due to death and/or relocating from the county. The election board is comprised of Charles E. Wildoner, Jim Thorpe; Gabriel Fritz, Lansford; and Lee Becker, East Penn Township. They have been appointed by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic of the Carbon County Court of Common Pleas to take the places of commissioners William J. O'Gurek, Charles Getz and Wayne E. Nothstein, all whom are candidates in the May 17 Primary Election. For Primary Election purposes, there are 33,006 persons eligible to participate in the process from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, since only voters registered to the two major parties - Democratic and Republican - are able to vote. That total includes 18,819 Democrats and 13, 835 Republicans, giving the Democrats a 4,984-voter plurality. The new voter registration totals show there are 567 less Democrats and 352 less Republicans due to the purging process. Anyone purged from the system who desires to be reactivated as a registered voter can reapply after the Primary Election.Besides the major parties, the new official registration totals show the following number of persons registered otherwise: No affiliation, 2,162; Non-partisan, 1,232; Independent, 736; Libertarian, 205; No Party, 174; Green, 73; Other, 24; Constitutional, 23; Independence, 13; Conservative, 12; Reform and None, 8 each; Liberal, 6; Patriot, 5; Constitution, Consumer's, Socialist, 3 and Unknown, 3 each; Undecided, 2; and American, Anarchist, Bull Moose, Communist, Freedom, Halloween, Independent Democrat, Individual, Labor, Neutral, Phreak the 4th and Right to Life parties, 1 each.A breakdown of the two major parties by election district includes:Banks Township - 491 Democrats, 170 Republicans; Beaver Meadows - 281 Democrats, 161 Republicans; Bowmanstown - 258 Democrats, 184 Republicans; East Penn South - 425 Democrats, 307 Republicans; East Penn North - 382 Democrats, 385 Republicans; East Side Borough - 84 Democrats, 72 Republicans; Franklin Township - Independent - 281 Democrats, 305 Republicans; Franklin Township - Harrity - 458 Democrats, 461 Republicans; Franklin Township - Long Run - 318 Democrats, 379 Republicans.Jim Thorpe 1 - 417 Democrats, 176 Republicans; Jim Thorpe 2 - 296 Democrats, 139 Republicans; Jim Thorpe 3 - 522 Democrats, 251 Republicans; Jim Thorpe 4 - 232 Democrats, 111 Republicans; Jim Thorpe 5 - 419 Democrats, 235 Republicans.Kidder Township North - 124 Democrats, 125 Republicans; Kidder Township South - 315 Democrats, 421 Republicans; Lansford East - 518 Democrats, 313 Republicans; Lansford Middle- 301 Democrats, 158 Republicans; Lansford West - 333 Democrats, 149 Republicans; Lausanne Township - 74 Democrats, 50 Republicans; Lehigh Township - 100 Democrats, 232 Republicans.Lehighton 1 - 499 Democrats, 390 Republicans; Lehighton 2 - 474 Democrats, 322 Republicans; Lehighton 3 - 479 Democrats, 276 Republicans; Lower Towamensing North - 486 Democrats, 352 Republicans; Lower Towamensing South - 396 Democrats, 246 Republicans; Mahoning Township - Mahoning - 665 Democrats, 588 Republicans; Mahoning Township - New Mahoning - 177 Democrats, 234 Republicans; Mahoning Township - Packerton-Jamestown - 223 Democrats, 162 Republicans; Nesquehoning East - 590 Democrats, 237 Republicans; Nesquehoning West - 648 Democrats, 341 Republicans; Packer Township - 229 Democrats, 384 Republicans.Palmerton East - 445 Democrats, 336 Republicans; Palmerton Middle - 754 Democrats, 473 Republicans; Palmerton West - 238 Democrats, 118 Republicans; Parryville - 132 Democrats, 93 Republicans; Penn Forest Southwest - 529 Democrats, 482 Republicans; Penn Forest Northwest - 548 Democrats, 500 Republicans; Penn Forest Middle - 413 Democrats, 286 Republicans; Penn Forest Northeast - 606 Democrats, 429 Republicans; Penn Forest East - 618 Democrats, 454 Republicans.Summit Hill 1 - 383 Democrats, 97 Republicans; Summit Hill 2 - 334 Democrats, 138 Republicans; Summit Hill 3 - 367 Democrats, 210 Republicans; Summit Hill - White Bear - 191 Democrats, 93 Republicans; Towamensing North - 318 Democrats, 381 Republicans; Towamensing South 1 - 362 Democrats, 422 Republicans; Towamensing South 2 - 400 Democrats, 320 Republicans; Weatherly East - 357 Democrats, 427 Republicans; Weatherly West - 205 Democrats, 190 Republicans; Weissport - 124 Democrats, 60 Republicans.
