The Panther Valley Senior Center has announced its list of activities for April. Starting April 1 is Deal or No Deal at 11 a.m.April 4 is bean bag, cards, and shooting pool. April 5 everyone can practice shooting darts. April 6 is Pay Bingo at 11 a.m. April 7 is CCTI Health Medical Class at 11:30 a.m. April 8 is a pizza party for $4 for lunch.April 11 is horse racing at 11 a.m. April 12 celebration of birthdays and bingo at 1 a.m. On April 13 there will be a speaker on Highway Safety at 11 a.m. April 14 checking blood pressures from 10:30-11:30 a.m. April 15 shopping and leaving at 9:30 a.m.JROTC meetingThe next meeting of the Panther Valley JROTC is scheduled for Thursday, April 14 at 6 p.m. Parents are invited to attend.Summit HillShade Tree CommissionThe Summit Hill Shade Tree Commission will be celebrating the annual Arbor Day planting of trees in Summit Hill on Saturday, April 30. The Arbor Day ceremony will take place at the gazebo in Ludlow Park.Anyone interested in sponsoring a memorial or honorary tree can contact Lou Vermillion, (570) 645-9772, or John Kupec, 645-9644.The trees will be ordered in the next several weeks. Volunteers are always welcome to help plant and maintain the trees in the borough, and donations to support the efforts of the commission are also accepted.Methodist ChargeThe schedule for the Summit Hill/Coaldale Charge of the United Methodist Church for Sunday, April 3, is as follows:Worship services will be held in the Summit Hill United Methodist Church at 9 a.m. and in the Coaldale United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. The Rev. Burgess Gordon, pastor, will officiate at both services.The adult Sunday school will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the Coaldale church.The administrative council of the Summit Hill church will meet on Tuesday, April 5, at 6:30 p.m. in the church.Food distributionThe Summit Hill Food Pantry distributes food to the needy in the community on a monthly basis. Distributions are usually made on the fourth Tuesday of each month.The Summit Hill Lions Club members assist with the packaging and distributions of the food boxes.Anyone wanting information about the pantry, or knowing someone who could use assistance, can contact Rose Marie Armon, (570) 645-3604 or Sandra Hill, 645-4617.LansfordHOPE needs helpThe HOPE (Helping Older Parishioners Earnestly) group of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, is seeking volunteers to work in pairs for a new parish ministry. The program will offer assistance of various tasks to older persons.Anyone interested in participating in the ministry can contact Marilyn Barrett, (570) 645-0370.Little AngelsThe Little Angels pre-School, a division of Our Lady of the Angels Academy, Lansford, is accepting registrations for the 2011-2012 school years. Classes are held in the OLOAA school building for 3-year-olds (half-days, two days a week) and 4-year-olds (a three-day a week program).
