The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Jan. 11 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 39 members in attendance.President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business meeting. Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered an invocation. Reports were presented by secretary Florina Martin and treasurer Shirley Becker.Birthday wishes were extended to Betty Kunkel, Doris Yeager, Gloria McHale and Gene Lutz. Yeager was also congratulated on her 48th wedding anniversary. Rhoda Purnell was added to the sick list.Martin, Jean Machamer and Becker provided inspirational readings.The group meets the second and fourth Monday of every month. Anyone 50 or older is welcome to join.Christmas treesThe Borough of Tamaqua's Street Department will be collecting discarded Christmas trees throughout January. Residents are to place their trees curbside on their regular trash collection days. Trees will be collected as time and weather permit.Trees must be free of all tinsel and decorations. Residents are also asked to remove any plastic bags from the trees. Trees may also be dropped off behind the Tamaqua Borough Garage, at 421 rear E. Broad St.No trees will be collected after Jan. 31.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. CareNet of Schuylkill County, in the process of establishing a crisis pregnancy center in Tamaqua, will share the ministry. Nursery care is provided. Ridge St., Lansford.The session is free and open to all local female cancer patients actively undergoing cancer treatment.During the session, trained cosmetologists will meet with patients to discuss ways of using makeup and accessories to minimize appearance-related side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatment.Look Good, Feel Better is offered in a group setting, providing participants with cancer education, information and support.Each woman will learn to apply makeup, using kits provided through the American Cancer Society's partnership with the Cosmetics, Toiletry and Fragrance Association and the National Cosmetology Association.Seating is limited, so registration is required.
