The Jim Thorpe Halloween Parade is Sunday, Oct. 30 at 4 p.m. It will proceed from Jim Thorpe Area High School, down Center Street to Ninth Street and onto North Street. The parade will end at 2nd and Center streets. Complimentary buses will shuttle participants back to Memorial Hall for free refreshments and awards.

There will be no parking along the parade route starting at 2 p.m. Those vehicles parked along the route will be ticketed.

Leaf pickup

The Jim Thorpe Borough will begin their annual leaf collecting the second week of November. Borough crews will be collecting Nov. 7-11 on the east side; Nov. 14-18 on the west side and heights section. You are asked to please call the borough office, (570) 325-3025, to let them know that you will have your leaves curbside of collection.

Party held

The Sunday School of St. John's Lutheran Church, South Avenue, held its annual Halloween party for the youngsters. Prizes were awarded to the following in various categories, most original, Bowden Chicarelli; cutest, Kylee Adamitis; spookiest, Daphnie Morris; funniest, Trace Morris, Jr. and judges choice, Kaitlin Strohl. Judges were Heike Hartman and Jennifer Swartz. There were 28 children that enjoyed the party, including the games and refreshments.

Logo contest

The Jim Thorpe National Night Out Committee will be running a logo contest for students in grades 4-12 that live in the Jim Thorpe Area School District or who attend Carbon Career and Technical Institute or Marian Catholic High School. For more information, pick up an entry form at a Jim Thorpe school, email, or call Cindy at (570) 778-5828 to request one. Prizes will be awarded.

Penn Forest Township meetings

The Penn Forest Township Board of Supervisors regular monthly meeting is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. in the municipal building. The hearing for the proposed new Penn Forest Township Zoning Ordinance will take place before the meeting at 6:30 p.m.

The Penn Forest Municipal Building will be closed on Nov. 8 for Election Day.
