Marian picked up doubleheader sweeps in both baseball and softball while Palmerton recorded wins in baseball, softball and soccer to highlight Monday's scholastic sports action.
Sawyer Smith and Matt Maher combined to drive in all five runs for Northwestern and help the Tigers to a 5-4 victory over Colonia League foe Northern Lehigh.
Smith knocked in three runs, while Maher drove in two. Teammate Payton Bachman chipped in with two hits and two runs.
Northern Lehigh's Matt Gill hit a three-run homer in the fifth and drove in another run to account for all four of the Bulldogs' runs. Gill finished the day 3-for-4.
Northwestern improves to 7-8 (6-7), while Northern Lehigh drops to 11-3 (10-2).

Ryan Saylor's sixth-inning RBI-single scored teammate Tanner Gutekunst with what turned out to be the game-winning run to lift Palmerton to a 9-8 Colonial League victory over visiting Bangor.
Gutekunst led the Bombers with perfect 4-for-4 performance at the plate, which included four singles, two runs scored and three RBIs.
Tyler Svetik chipped in with two singles and four RBIs for Palmerton. Aaron Cook recorded a single and two runs scored.

The Colts rode their offense to an 11-4 victory in the opener and then relied on the pitching of Corey Ryba to post a 7-0 victory in game two.
In the opener, Ryba led the Colts at the plate with a perfect 4-for-4 performance, which included three runs scored and three RBIs. Zach Motil followed with three singles and a run scored. JT Keer (two singles, three run scored), Brandon Dopira (single, double, two RBIs), Mark Stawick (single, double), Ryan Gimbi (two singles, RBI) and Ron Kosar (two singles) also had big games for the Colts.
Ryba was successful on the mound in the nightcap, firing a two-hitter and striking out six. He also added a double and a triple at the plate. Teammate Ryan Gimbi chipped in with a single, double, a run scored and an RBI. Scott Morris contributed two singles and two RBIs.

Game one's ending was quite bizarre. After reaching base on a bunt single, stealing second and moving to third on a ground out, the Fillies' Sam Faust stole home when Mahanoy Area lost track of the count. Thinking they had just recorded a strike out to end the inning (when in reality it was only strike two), the Golden Bears rolled the ball to the mound and began walking off the field. Faust then sprinted home for the game-winning run.
Game two had more of a traditional ending and saw the Fillies win 5-4. Kayla Knight and Gabby Green each had two hits, while teammates Alexa Nemeth and Shannon Skotek each legged out doubles.
Knight earned the win in both games. She went the distance in game one and then came in in relief in game two.

The Cardinals' Ethel Santai tossed a perfect game in a 17-0 victory in game one while Miranda Riegel threw a one-hitter in a 16-0 win in game two.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals' offense took advantage of some timely hits and walks to rattle off a total of 33 runs in a span of six innings.
With the two setbacks, Panther Valley slips to 0-13 overall and 0-8 in the SL.
