Offense rules 9-10 tourney

Offense was the name of the game for teams in the District 18 9-10 Tournament.

Five teams reached 15 runs or more over the weekend.

District 18 9-10

Tamaqua Blue-

Towamensing White

Nate Boyle made the game-winning catch as Tamaqua Blue held on for a 9-8 win over Towamensing White.

Michael Bonetsky added three hits for Blue, while Boyle, winning pitcher Brady Moyer and Nicholas Breiner had two hits each.

Eric Baumgardt had two hits and scored twice, while Tanner Burnett and Owen Reis also scored twice for Towamensing.


Franklin exploded for 10 runs in the first and eight more in the second for a 21-3 win.

Jesse Dekorte, Zach Crum and Justin Ahner all had three hits for Franklin. Dereck Binder and Josh Robin had one hit each for Anthracite.

Jim Thorpe-

Tamaqua White

A 13-run first inning propelled Jim Thorpe to a 21-5 win over Tamaqua White.

Trevor Hickey had three hits for Jim Thorpe, while Derrick Beckham, Nathan Rosahac, T.J. Garritano and Zach Searfoss each had two.

Nick Kirnick had two hits for Tamaqua.

Nicholas Rosahac got the win.


Towamensing Blue

Anthony Wernett had four hits as Weatherly doubled the Towamensing Blue run output for a 22-11 win.

Kevin Osifat and Joel Hinkle added three hits each for Weatherly.

Parker Wissler and Logan Kresge had two hits each for Blue, while Zach Schoenberger had three hits.


Towamensing White

Owen Reis singled and doubled and Eric Baumgardt and Aaron Stasko added two hits each as Towamensing White defeated Anthracite 15-5 in four innings.

Josh Jurick and Blake Morgans had two singles for Anthracite.

Franklin Twp-Tamaqua Blue

Nate Boyle's single, double and triple led Tamaqua Blue to a 13-3 win over Franklin Township.

Nicholas Breiner had four hits, while Matthew Kistler had two hits and was also the winning pitcher for Blue.

Zach Crum had two hits for Franklin Township.

Jim Thorpe-Weatherly

Jim Thorpe exploded for nine runs in the fourth inning to Weatherly 18-3.

Nick Rosahac had five RBI, while Derrick Beckham and T.J. Garritano had multiple hits for Jim Thorpe.

Kevin Osifat had two singles for Weatherly.

Trevor Hickey was the winning pitcher.


Towamensing Blue

Mason Goida pitched a complete game as Lansford ousted Towamensing Blue by a 12-2 score.

Bradley Buzzard tripled and reached base three times for the winners, while Wyatt Zimmerman singled and tripled and Ronald Distler singled and doubled.

Erick Keck tripled for Blue.

District 18 11-12

Hazle Twp/Tri. Co.-Tamaqua

Nick Erbe hit a two-run homer in the third and an RBI double in the first to lift the Hazle Twp./Tri-County 11-12 All-Stars to a 6-0 victory over Tamaqua on Friday.

Justin Podlasek pitched a four-hit shutout, struck out nine and drilled a two-run single for the winners.

Teague Schmidt gave up seven hits, and had eight strikeouts for Tamaqua. Eddie Titus came on in relief and hurled 1 scoreless innings. Schmidt had two hits for Tamaqua.
