Three enter guilty pleas; sentenced

Two men entered guilty pleas and one pleaded no defense to criminal charges this week and all three were sentenced by judges of Schuylkill County court.

Andrew Scott Lehman, 28, Pottsville, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol and was sentenced by Judge John E. Domalakes to serve one to five years in a state correctional institution, pay a fine of $2,500, pay $300 to the Substance Abuse Education (SAE) fund, $50 to Catastrophe fund and when released on probation to enroll in an alcohol highway safety school and receive inpatient treatment or intensive counseling. He also must make restitution of $60 to Schuylkil Medical Center for lab work and his driver's license is suspended 18 months.Lehman received an unusual sentence on a charge of driving while his license was suspended. He was given a concurrent sentence of 89 days, 23 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds to 90 days and on a charge of careless driving was fined $25 plus $63.50 costs. And on a charge of failing to drive on streets or highways fined $25 plus $50 costs and on a charge of failing to have proper headlights on his vehicle fined $25 plus $50 costs. Lehman was cited by Pottsville Patrolman Brian W. Kotzmoyer.Douglas J. Schartel Jr., 22, Shenandoah, pleaded guilty to DUI and was sentenced by Judge Cyrus Palmer Dolbin to serve six months to two years in the Schuylkill County Prison, pay a fine of $500, pay $100 to SAE fund, $200 to Catastrophe fund, $50 to Criminal Justice Enhancement Account (CJEA), and attend safe driving school. On a charge of driving while his license was suspended was sentenced to pay a fine of $500 and serve a concurrent sentence of 90 days to one year. Schartel was cited by Mahanoy City Officer Robert Romanick.Nathan D. Forker, 26, Shenandoah, pleaded nolo contendere (no defense) to a charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana and was placed probation for 30 days, pay $100 to SAE fund, $50 to CJEA, and $113 to Bethlehem Regional Lab. He was cited by Mahanoy Township Patrolman Brandon Alexander.Each defendant must also pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
