After years of planning, investigating, and studying as many as five different sites, ground was officially broken on a 180-acre site on the Broad Mountain in Nesquehoning this afternoon for Carbon County's new correctional facility. About 50 county, borough, and township officials joined the three-man board of commissioners for the ceremony. The prison is expected to carry a price tag of $7,848,800. Commissioners Dean D. W. DeLong, Thomas C. Gerhard, and John D. Mogilski spoke during the brief ceremony.
