Palmerton man dies; crashes car while fleeing police

A vehicle that officials said was being pursued by police crashed into a home in Walnutport on Saturday morning, claiming the life of a Palmerton man.

Officials said James Diehl, 24, died in the incident, which happened around 3 a.m.

State police at the Bethlehem barracks said the man was attempting to flee police at the time.

His red Honda Civic went out of control, flipped over and crashed into the porch of the home located at 238 Main St.

Police said prior to the crash, they attempted to pull Diehl over at Second and Main streets but the man fled on Main Street at a high rate of speed before the vehicle went out of control, left the roadway and struck the porch.

State police did not say why they tried to pull Diehl over.
