Indians, Raiders get wins

The Lehighton golf team and Tamaqua girls tennis team both posted victories on Friday.


Lehighton-ES North

Lehighton picked up its first golf victory of the year, as the Indians knocked off East Stroudsburg North in Mountain Valley Conference action, 14 1/2-9 1/2.

North's Ken Dixon won the medalist honors with a 79. He was the only Timberwolf to shoot below 100.

Lehighton (1-2) were led by Alden Everett's 93. Jake Hoats (94), Nick Mantz (95) and PJ Salerno (96) shot under 100 as well.

Blue Mt.-Tamaqua

Blue Mountain had three golfers shoot in the 70s and ran away from Tamaqua, winning 303-372

Tyler Marcotte led the Blue Eagles with a two-over 72. James Bromwell (74) and Adam Bear (76) also went below 80.

The Raiders (1-4) were led by Mike Weinert's 88.

ACC-Jim Thorpe

Allentown Central Catholic blanked Jim Thorpe for a 5-0 victory.

The Lady Vikings' Linda Nguyen, Caroline Bondi and Colleen Topper swept singles' play.

The Olympians slip to 1-1 on the early season.

Tamaqua took both doubles matches and went on to defeat William Allen, 3-2 in non-league action.

The doubles teams of Emily Hansler/Taylor Urban and Laine Confer/Tannar Urban each won in straight sets for the Lady Raiders. Hansler/Urban squeaked out a tight one, winning 7-5, 7-6 (7-5), while Confer/Urban won easily, 6-0, 6-0.

Carly Fenstemacher posted the other victory for the locals in the No. 3 singles match.
