Schuylkill crashes

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on two crashes investigated by troopers on Schuylkill County roadways, both occurring on Thursday, Aug. 18.

A crash occurred about 7:03 a.m. along SR443 in Pine Grove Township. Troopers said Amie T. Kimmel, 26, of Pine Grove, was driving a 2004 Jeep Liberty westbound when she said an older model car swerved into her lane of travel. She swerved her vehicle to avoid a collision, went onto the south berm and back onto the road losing control.

The Liberty crossed over the eastbound lane and into a parking area where it struck a parked 1999 Ford Crown Victoria, pushing it about 50 feet down an embankment. The Liberty continued another 60 feet before striking a utility pole, damaging a electrical box.

Kimmel was not injured with damages severe to the Liberty.

The second crash occurred about 7:25 a.m. along Keefer Road, also in Pine Grove Township. Troopers said Michael M. Griffith, 20, of Pine Grove, was driving a 1989 Oldsmobile Delta 88 westbound when he fell asleep. The car went onto the south berm and struck a PennDOT sign. After impact with the sign the car continued to travel in a westerly direction before striking several trees. After impact with the tree the car continued west and struck a drainage pipe. After that impact the car continued on and struck a grass embankment where it came to rest.

Griffith was not injurd. He was cited for traveling on roadways laned for traffic.
