Luzerne woman facing drug counts

Elizabeth Karanink, 23, of 530 Delaware Avenue, Apt. 2, Pittston, faces charges from an incident which took place at 10:31 p. m. July 30 on the 200 block of W. Abbott St., Lansford. Officer Joshua Tom filed charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, persistent disorderly conduct, and public drunkenness against Karanink. She was arraigned before District Judge Bruce Appleton of Palmerton and committed to prison. According to an affidavit of probable cause, here's what happened:

Tom was on duty and received a call about a possible assault, the caller was an Elizabeth Karanink. Upon arrival, he immediately noticed a strong odor of alcohol about the woman, who immediately began cursing at him as he tried to gather information.Tom saw that neighbors had begun coming out of their homes, and asked Karanink again to stop cursing. She continued to get louder and more aggressive. he asked her once more to stop being disorderly, but she refused. He arrested her, and once in the police car, she began cursing loudly and punching the passenger side rear window.Karanink was again advised by officer Brian Zulic, Officer Amie Barclay and Tom to stop punching the vehicle and to stop yelling.Tom conducted a security search of Karanink's purse before transporting her, and found a multicolored glass pipe which contained marijuana residue.
