Voters in the northeastern part of Schuylkil County will have to vote on an important question which will be placed on the ballot for the Primary Election.

The county commissioners, at their work session Wednesday at the courthouse, granted permission to Election Director Frannie Brennan to place on the ballot a referendum question adopted by the Hazleton Area School District which will effect residents in East Union Township, Kline Township, North Union Township and McAdoo, who are part of the school district.The voters will be asked to cast a vote on a referendum question as follows:"Do you favor the Hazleton Area School District imposing additional 1.6204 mills in real estate tax in Luzerne County, a reduction of 4.0544 mills in real estate tax in Schuylkill County and additional 4.7063 mills in real estate tax in Carbon County?" A yes, no vote is to be cast. There are 34 precincts in Luzerne County and two in Carbon County which are part of the Hazleton Area School District.Hire workersThe election director was granted permission to hire 14 rovers at the rate of $10 per hour, plus 51 cents per mile to cover travel expenses to visit on election day polling places to take care of any problems which may arise.Frank Gengemi and Morris Brill, Pottsville, were hired as per diem workers at $10 per hour to be called as needed in preparation for the municipal primary election. Six people will be hired to serve on the computing board which will convene the Friday after the election to make the official count of votes cast. They will be paid $70 per day, beginning May 20.Approval was given to hire 10 drivers to deliver the voting machines to the pollilng places prior to election day, May 17, and the salary fixed. Hired were Karen Davison, Tamaqua, $200; Kurt Yoder, Hegins, $190; Joseph Contrady, McAdoo, $200; William Klinger, Frackville, $150; Joseph McElvaney, Saint Clair, $130; Shelly Smith-Moyer, Pottsville, $200; Edward Yeneshosky, Saint Clair, $150; Walter Leashefsky, Orwigsburg, $210; Kenneth Eichenberg, Minersville, $160; and Kenneth Breisch, Schuylkill Haven, $2009.Appointed to the Resolution Board which will be on duty election night when the unofficial vote count is made to resolve any problems with the count were Edward Barkett, Pottsville; Chares "Skip": Miller, Orwigsburg; and Adam Pancake, Tremont. Each will be paid $100 for their night's service. Mark Scarbinsky, Saint Clair, the county fiscal administrator who will serve without compensation.
