Acquitted of drugs

Brad Scheeler, 34, of 82 Grier Avenue, Barnesville, was acquitted by Judge Cyrus Palmer Dolbin of charges of criminal conspiracy, possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of possession of a controlled substance filed by Mahanoy City Patrolman Michael Dissinger. The incident occurred on Sept. 23, 2009.Plea guiltyThose who entered guilty pleas were sentenced as follows:Jerry Gerald Sinko, 19, of 75 Silver Creek Road, New Philadelphia, pleaded guilty to possession of a small amount of marijuana and was sentenced by Judge Dolbin to pay a fine of $300, pay $100 to Substance Abuse Education (SAE) fund, $50 to Criminal Justice Enhancement Account (CJEA) and make restitution of $113 to Bethlehem Regional Lab. Sinko was cited by Pottsville Patrolman Richard J. Pugh, last Jan. 8 on Elk Avenue.Mark A. Hine, 27, Sunbury, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol and was sentenced by Judge Dolbin to serve 48 hours to six months in the county prison beginning Jan. 3 at 8 a.m. and he is not allowed to consume any alcoholic beverages while awaiting to begin his prison sentence, pay a fine of $500, pay $100 to SAE fund, $100 to Catastrophe fund, $50 to CJEA, a $50 monthly supervision fee, enroll in the alcohol highway safe driving school, and his driver's license is suspended 12 months. Hine was cited by Butler Township Chief Edward Tarantelli, last March.Allan Craig Bittle, 43, Pottsville, pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia and was sentenced by Judge Dolbin to serve six months on probation, pay $100 to SAE fund, $50 to CJEA and a $50 monthly supervision fee. On a charge of public drunkenness was fined $25 and costs. Bittle was cited by Pottsville Patrolman Joseph R. Welsh, last New Year's Day.Mis-trialAfter many hours of deliberation a jury remained deadlocked and could not agree upon a verdict in the case of Arthur Uroskie, 39, of Saint Clair, and President Judge William E. Baldwin declared a mis-trial and ordered Uroskie to remain free on bail pending the Commonwealth's decision to list the case on a future trial list.Uroskie was charged by Trooper Bernard Spece with 16 aggravated indecent assault charges, eight indecent exposure charges, three involuntary deviate sexual intercourse charges with person under 16 years of age and two corruption of minors charges.Guilty of contemptDavid Brady, Saint Clair, was adjudged by Judge D. Michael Stine guilty of indirect criminal contempt for violating two protection from abuse orders and fined $600 and cost. He was charged with delivering threatening voice mail messages to the victim.Beats chargeJacob Alexander Cook, 25, Tremont, was found not guilty by a jury of charges of homicide by vehicle, homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence (DUI) and three counts of aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI. He also was found not guilty of two summary charges, stop sign violation and careless driving. The jury found him guilty of DUI.Judge Charles Miller set sentencing for Jan. 21. The charges were filed by Trooper Arthur Wink after investigating a two car crash on Dec. 6, 2008, at the intersection of state routes 125 and 209 in Tremont Township. Cook's vehicle was involved in a collision with a truck operated by Timothy Scheib, who died of injuries, and his two sons, Christopher and Dustin Scheib, who were passenger's in their father's car and who were seriously injured.Divorces grantedAlice Ketchledge, 243 Spruce St., Tamaqua, was granted a divorce from Kevin Ketchledge, 633 W. Centre St., Mahanoy City. They were married Sept. 27, 1980.Gina M. Thompson was granted a divorce from Robert D. Thompson, both of Pottsville. They were married Nov. 32, 1997.James P. McGovern was granted a divorce from Shana L. McGovern, both of Auburn. They were married Oct. 1, 1999.Lawrence Reenei Sr. was granted a divorce from Jane Reenei, both of Tremont. They were married July 10, 1989.
