Posters representing some of the most memorable Christmas movies and cartoon specials can now been seen displayed in the windows of businesses in downtown Tamaqua.

Along West Broad Street, DiMaggio's La Dolce Casa has a poster for "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," while Tire Pros has "The Muppets Christmas Carol" and Bittner's General Store has "Frosty the Snowman."The posters have been created by students at Tamaqua Area Middle School as a special holiday project.Kim Snyder, art instructor, said she was inspired for the project by memories of growing up in Tamaqua, when businesses would let students paint art on their windows during holidays such as Halloween and Christmas.Instead of painting on the windows, students of the middle school's Specialty Art Group painted posters of the Yuletide's best known films.The group meets during a period at the end of the school day and crafted the posters. "It is like a little production studio in here," said Snyder. "I am really proud of them. They look like professional movie posters, and they look real good displayed in the windows downtown."The students are not receiving a grade for their artwork. "They are doing this as an extra activity and because they want to do it," added Snyder. "We just want to share them with the community."Snyder said she approached businesses about displaying the posters and found them receptive."Our goal is to get as many done as we could before Tamaqua's Santa Claus Parade," she added.The artists were busy at work putting the finishing touches on another round of posters, including "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," "White Christmas" and "Miracle on 34th Street."The posters have added some homemade holiday charm to Broad Street in time for this weekend's annual Spirit of Christmas festival in Tamaqua.
