By a split vote the Schuylkill County Planning Commission gave approval Wednesday to the preliminary plan of Eagle Rock Resorts Company, of Hazleton, to subdivide 430.3 acres into 137 building lots in the Algonquin Valley Subdivision, located in North Union Township.

A dissenting vote was cast by Anthony Prudenti, who expressed concern of people who bought lots in a subdivision which originally was to have a lake.He said some lots had been sold with that understanding and now the revised subdivision plans call for elimination of constructing the lake in the subdivision.Vice Chairman Gary Bender, who chaired the meeting, commented that the plans address all engineering requirements.A tract of 28.54 acres within the subdivision will be used for residential purposes.Projects reviewedThe commission reviewed a number of projects and had no comment. They were:• Tamaqua Congregation seeking a permit from Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PDEP) for construction of a church in West Penn Township.• Eagle Rock Resorts Company, Hazleton, seeking a permit from PDEP to connect 400 lots to the public water system in East Union and North Union Township.• Williams Valley School District seeking a permit from PDEP to convert an abandoned private waste water treatment plant and install a sewage pump for connection to the municipal waste water treatment plant in PorterTownship.• North Schuylkill Transfer Station is seeking a permit from PDEP for permission to extend its hours to Saturday for the same time it is open during the week, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.• The commission reviewed Shenandoah Boroughs's proposed zoning ordinance amendments and Pine Grove Joint Treatment Authority Water Quality Management's request for a permit from PDEP for use of an aeration tank for septage receiving.
