The Marian High School Hall of Fame Committee will hold its induction dinner for the Class of 2010 on Sunday, Oct. 31, at The Grand Ballroom of Kelly's Irish Pub, Lansford.

The committee inducts 10 athletes every two years. Inductees of coaches are also determined by committee members.The program will begin with a social hour at 3 p.m., followed by the dinner and the induction ceremonies. Tickets to the dinner can be obtained by calling Bill O'Gurek, 570-645-4148; Emmett McCall, 570-645-2093; or Jack Malarkey, 570-668-2116.The inductees include:Robert Agosti, Class of 1988Robert John Agosti, a native and present resident of Lake Hauto and a 1988 graduate of Marian High School, played four years of football, three years of basketball and one year of baseball for the Colts. Bob had an outstanding career as No. 32 on the Colt football team despite having his career interrupted by injuries. He was a Colt during their 25-game winning streak from 1985-87 and ranks second on Marian's all-time rushing list with 2,594 yards. He scored 30 career touchdowns. Bob holds two school records, having rushed for 306 yards against Pottsville in 1986 and scored five TDs against Lourdes in 1987. He was a member of the 1985 District 11 and the 1986 Eastern Conference Class B championship teams, the latter having been the only undefeated team in the storied history of Marian Football. In 1986 and 1987, he was selected to the First Team All Anthracite, All County and All Area squads. Bob was also a two-year starter in basketball and finished with 548 career points. He and his wife, Linda, have four children, Anthony, 15, Nico, 13, Gianna, 10, and Dante, 7. Bob has been a member of the Marian Football staff for the past seven years.Thomas Andregic, Class of 1969Tom Andregic, a native of Tuscarora, played for the Colts from 1965-69. He served as co-captain of the football, basketball and baseball teams and earned eight letters during his athletic career. He was voted by his class as its most outstanding athlete. Tom quarterbacked the Colts for three seasons, had three solid campaigns on the hardwood, scoring 625 points in his junior and senior years, and played three years on the baseball team. As a junior cager, he averaged 14.8 ppg and followed it up with a senior campaiogn in which he averaged 12.4. He scored over 20 points five times, and had a string of 17 consecutive free throws. After graduating from Kutztown in 1973, he returned to Marian and taught and coached football, basketball and baseball at his Alma Mater for five years. In 1980, Tom moved to Cedar Cliff High School, where he taught for 20 years as a reading teacher and was a football assistant for seven years and the head varsity baseball coach for eight years. He moved on to Camp Hill High School for eight years as head of the Developmental and Remedial Reading Program. He and his wife, the former Geraldine Scully (Marian '75), are the parents of three children, Zac, Brooke and Alison, all of whom continue to excel academically and athletically.Diane McCullion Carrington, Class of 1986A 1986 graduate of Marian, Diane McCullion Carrington was one of the most well-rounded players ever to put on a Fillies' basketball uniform. She played in 122 varsity games from 1982-86, during which time the Fillies has an unbelievable record of 90-11 in her sophomore, junior and senior years. Diane scored 868 points in her career, including 528 in '85-86 when she led the Fillies in scoring in a District 11 championship season. She was also a member of the '83-84 PIAA state championship team, which also won the Schuylkill League crown. Besides her scoring prowess, Diane had 492 rebounds, 209 assists, 198 steals, 64 blocked shots and shot 59.5% from the field in her career. After graduation, she went to the U.S. Air Force Academy, where she played basketball from 1986-88 and was on the women's handball team from 1988-91, graduating in 1991 with a degree in civil engineering. A former C-17 pilot, she earned a master's degree in international affairs from Troy State University. Diane is a major in the Air Force Reserves and since 2003 has served as the Academy's liaison officer/deputy regional director for Ohio, in which she is responsible for over 200 high schools. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry McCullion of Summit Hill and is married to Steve Carrington. They have three children, Stephanie, Jacob and Vanessa. They family resides in Cincinnati, Ohio.Arthur Coury, Class of 1958Art Coury, a 1958 graduate of Marian, hailed from Lansford and was a member of the first freshman class of MHS. He played football as a freshman under Joe Rilo and started his last game as a freshman and every high school game thereafter. The new Colts continued to improve each year under Coach Hugh "Wink" Gallagher and Art had three outstanding seasons of play, including one game when he scored all of the Colts' points in a 20-7 victory over Lansdale Catholic. His athletic and academic achievements earned him a scholarship to the University of Delaware, where he played all four years while earning a bachelor of science degree in chemistry. He eventually received a MBA degree and his PhD in organic chemistry in 1963, both from the University of Minnesota. Art enjoyed a rewarding career in the field of polymer technology, mostly for implantable medical devices. He retired in 2008 but continues to consult and serve on many academic, industrial and society advisory boards. Art is married to the former Judy Howie. The couple has two sons, both of which are medical doctors, Chris, married to Ellen, and Tim, married to Karla; six grandchildren; a sister Jane, also a MHS graduate; and a niece.Erick Hackenberg, Class of 1988A 1988 graduate of Marian High, he resided in Lake Hauto and was a four-year member of both the football and basketball teams. During his football career, Erick, a stellar quarterback, passed for 26 TDs, 159 completions and 2,909 yards, including 1,442 yards in 1986 when as a junior he led the Colts to the Eastern Conference Class B Championship and a 13-0 season. During the 1987 season, he passed for 1,287 yards, finishing his career with 2,909 yards in the air, which ranks him fifth in all-time passing yards at Marian. In 1988, he was selected as Marian's Scholar-Athlete. Erick played was also selected to play in the Big 33 Game at Hershey, where he hit 6-of-11 passes for 68 yards and a TD, and carried four times for 33 yards in Pa.'s win over Maryland. His football talents earned him a full scholarship to attend the University of Virginia. Erick later transferred to Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, where he went on to quarterback the Crusaders, passing for 3,088 yards in two seasons. He was Marian's 1988 Scholar Athlete and a member of the National Honor Society. On the court, he played three years of varsity basketball for Coach Sid Llera and was a tri-captain in the 87-88 campaign, scoring 353 points through his career. Erick is married to the former Nicole "Nikki" Miller, who is being inducted tonight as a pioneer of the Marian Fillies' volleyball team who brought the program to prominence statewide. They have four sons, Christian, 15, Brandon, 13, Adam, 11, and Drue, 8.Nicole Hackenberg, Coach, 1996-2002A 1990 graduate of Marian, Nicole (Miller) Hackenberg's prowess on the volleyball floor showed up at Lehigh University, where she was an All Patriot League selection and multiple award recipient through a four-year career. She returned to her Alma Mater in 1996 as head volleyball coach where she took the Fillie netters to unprecedented levels, launching a program that now has become one of the finest in the state. "Nikki" had a career record of 160-28 at MHS. Her teams won Schuylkill League championships in 1999, when she was named Coach of the Year, 2000 and 2001, and qualified for the District 11 playoffs those years and also in 2002. Under her guidance, the Fillies advanced to the state quarterfinals in 1999 and 2000 and were state semi-finalists in 2001 and 2002. At Lehigh, she was named the Outstanding Athlete of the Year in Women's Volleyball, where she captained the Division 1 team in 1993-94. She was named to the All Patriot League Scholar Athlete Team each year from 1990-94. In addition to her career with the Fillies, Nikki has been a consultant for the USAV Anthracite Club Teams since 1998, and served as its head coach from 1995-98. Since 1994, she coordinates the Hackenberg Summer Volleyball Camps and Coaching Clinics. She also previously coached at Lehigh and Penn State (Hazleton) universities. A teacher at Fluvanna Middle School, Fork Union, Va., she holds a master of education degree in English/Language Arts. She and her husband Erick reside in Palmyra, Va., and have four sons, Christian, 15, Brandon, 13, Adam, 11, and Drue, 8.Bernard Krupa, Class of 1975Bernie Krupa was an outstanding two-sport at Marian High, graduating in 1975. He played on the basketball teams of Coach Bob Fulton, scoring 1,026 points, which ranks him as No. 12 on the all-time Colts' cage scoring list. In his senior year, Bernie was named to several area All Star teams and received Honorable Mention All State status. His basketball talents earned him a scholarship to Elizabethtown College, where he played from 1975-79. During his senior year, he was selected team captain and led the team to its first MAC championship. He graduated from EC with a degree in business management and later earned a master's degree in business management from Baldwin Wallace College. On the track, Bernie broke school records in the 200-yard run and long jump. A resident of Longview, Tex., he works for Aramark Healthcare Services and has served as an administrative director of Support Services for the Good Shepherd Medical, Marshall, Tex. He and his wife Shelly are the parents of a daughter, Kelsey, who scored 1,896 points in her high school career and earned a Division 1 scholarship to Texas State University.Barbara Shimkus Mailey, Class of 1982History in the short-lived existence of our Hall of Fame will be made tonight when this 1982 graduate of Marian joins her sisters in being inducted, and the Shimkus family will join the Agosti family as each of them having three of their members in the Hall. Barbara Shimkus-Mailey joins sisters, Sue Connely and Lenore Schell in being inducted. Ironically, she joined her sisters in Fillie basketball uniforms, when they and their teammates put up some of the most impressive numbers in high school sports. Barbara scored over 1,300 points and had 983 rebounds during her career, which saw the Fillies go and unbelievable 134-15, winning two Schuylkill League and three District 11 championships and also finishing as a league, district and PIAA runnerup in 1979-80 when the Fillies of Elsie Tolan were 36-1. She averaged 18 ppg as a senior and through her career was a Schuylkill League, Anthracite League and District First Team honoree, as well as MVP of the Panther Valley Tournament. Barbara also joined her sisters in attending the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, where she lettered in three years on the court, during which time her team qualified for the NCAA tournament each campaign. Barbara and her husband Kevin reside in Downingtown with their Grace, 9.David McAndrew, Coach, 1991-99Coach Dave McAndrew's career at Marian spanned from 1991-99, including three years as the freshman coach and six campaigns as the head coach of the varsity, during which time the Colts garnered their best W-L numbers ever. As the freshman coach from '91-93, his teams amassed a 54-2 record, which Coach McAndrew followed as the head coach with six straight 20-win seasons and district and state playoff appearances. His .795 winning percentage (136-35) is the tops among any Marian coach. He guided the Colts to four Schuylkill League division championships and two league title games; two District 11 titles, including the first one in the school's history; and an Eastern finalist game played in Hershey, which represents the furthest any boys; PIAA team has went. He was named Times News Coach of the Year four times and Schuylkill League Division Coach of the Year three times. Coach coined the term of the 90s "Marian Basketball: Playing With a Passion," as his teams were known for their full-court pressure defense and fast-paced scoring offense. A 1972 graduate of Marian and a graduate of Villanova University, he previously coached at Tamaqua, Panther Valley and Jim Thorpe. Dave is married to the former Margaret McElmoyle, a MHS graduate. The couple has three children, David, Daniel and Shannon Fannock.Peggy Sue O'Donnell, Class of 1977Peggy Sue O'Donnell, a 1977 MHS graduate, was the starting point guard for the Fillies of Elsie Tolan for four years, having played in three league championship games, winning one, during that span (1973-77). She helped the Fillies compile a record of 86-20 during those four years, during which time she scored 786 points. Although no one remembers keeping statistics on assists, almost everyone, players and coaches, are sure Peggy Sue is among the all-time Fillie leaders in that category. While scoring her own points, she "dished off" to teammates who set their own personal records on the hardwood, including two 2,000-point scorers (Ann Marie Kosciolek and Sue Shimkus) and two 1,000-point scorers (Denise Burdick and Lenore Shimkus). Peggy Sue was the MVP of the 1976-77 Schuylkill League Senior All Star Game and received the Thaddeus Kosciolek Memorial Award as the school's most dedicated female basketball player. Also while at Marian, she was a pitcher and shortstop for four years for the Fillies' softball team. After graduation, she played both sports at Kutztown University. Peggy resides in Jim Thorpe and is the mother of a daughter, Kerri, a MHS graduate.James Rooney, Class of 1981This 1981 graduate of Marian left his mark on the gridiron, where he was an outstanding linebacker for the Blue and Gold. Jim Rooney's talents earned him a full scholarship to Syracuse University in New York, where, unfortunately, an injury cut his career short. It was in the Spring of 1984 when he had just made a tackle and walked off the field complaining of a headache and nausea, later having a brush with death due to a blood clot on the brain and two ruptured blood vessels that required five-hour surgery. Jim was honored in 2005 at SU as the recipient of the Mike and Judy Zunic Award as the Orangeman who exemplified courage and spirit at the university. He graduated there in 1985 with a degree in political science and two years later earned his master's degree in public administration. He is currently in Afghanistan working as a contract administrator for the U.S. Department of Defense. Jim never lost his love for high school football and has coached at that level in Florida and Syracuse, where in 2007 he was an assistant at Bishop Ludden High School when it won the N.Y. State Class C State Championship. He and his wife, Ann, have three children, John, a freshman on a baseball scholarship at Siena College, Albany, N.Y., Grace, a senior at Bishop Ludden who has been offered a softball scholarship to attend St. Bonaventure University, and Tim, a freshman at Bishop Ludden. Jim's mother, Eleanor, still lives in Mahanoy City. His dad John is deceased. His sister and her husband (Mary and John Evetushick) live in Tamaqua.Kevin Trice, Class of 1977A Jim Thorpe native, Kevin Trice was a three-year letter winner as an offensive and defensive lineman at Marian, where he helped the Colts rise to prominence on the gridiron in the 1970s, leading the forces of Chuck Rocconi to 10-1 and 9-1 seasons in 1975 and 1976. He won numerous honors for his dominating play on the line, including offensive and defensive All County, All Southern Division, All East-Central and Big 33 honorable mention laurels. He was voted the Most Outstanding Lineman of the 1977 Senior Charity Bowl game and also played in the UNICO All Star Game that year. Kevin received numerous offers to take his football talents to college(s), but instead enlisted in the Army in August, 1977, continuing to play football as a member of the Ft. Benning (Ga.) Battalion squad. After his discharge in 1980, he received a scholarship to play football for the University of Texas at El Paso, where his brother, David, was on scholarship. Kevin played briefly before returning home to begin his working career at the Kovatch Corporation, Nesquehoning. He and his wife, Nancy, had two children, Kevin, who had an untimely death when he was a junior at Marian and a member of the Colts football team, and Amanda. Upon Kevin's death, the Trices began a football scholarship in his memory, recognizing a senior player who played "with heart and a pure love for the game" as did both Kevin Trices.
