Palmerton to spend nearly $12,000 to improve its water flow

It appears as though it will cost Palmerton nearly $12,000 to improve its water flow throughout several areas of the borough.

The borough's Municipal Authority on Tuesday agreed to award a contract for the insertion of waterline valves to Hamersley Enterprises of Coopersburg. The company turned in the apparent low bid of $11,700 out of five companies that submitted proposals for the project. That bid was a mere $300 less than the next lowest bid of $12,000 turned in by Kinsley Construction of York, York County.Other companies that bid were W.D. Fox Taping & Welding, Inc. of Wrightsville, York County ($17,049), Garrison Enterprises of Vineland, NJ ($19,470), and Linde Corporation of Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County ($20,325).Borough Manager Rodger Danielson said the waterline valve insertions will be conducted primarily in the 500 block of Lehigh Avenue.Danielson cautioned that while the project will likely only take a day or so to complete, it will be done live, which he said he hopes won't interrupt flow. The borough will pay for the project from its water capital budget, Danielson said.
