Weissport Council tentatively adopted the 2011 budget Monday night with little discussion or comment from board members or residents attending the meeting.

Last year council members faced a split vote for final adoption and former Mayor Tina Hagenbuch had refused to sign the tax ordinances for Weissport, which had put the budget in limbo for a few days.Hagenbuch had voted to not adopt the budget because she said it did not have enough funds for police training. She was to cast the deciding vote when two members voted for the budget and two voted against the budget. One member had been absent.At a following meeting, three council members eventually voted to override the mayor's refusal to sign the tax ordinances.No such drama took place on Monday.Dana Brubaker, secretary, said the budget follows actual costs to run the borough and that there is only room for a little wiggle from one account to the other.Brubaker said there will not be an increase in taxes. Milage will remain the same at 8.9 mills, which is the same milage as last year and the year before.Council President Tim Rehrig said that council plans to continue the past year's policy to have one police officer, chief Steve Mansueto, to serve the town.Council anticipates spending $141,370 in 2011. Last year's anticipated receipts were $2,841 higher.Council anticipates final adoption of the budget to be done at the Nov. 15 meeting. The budget will be on display for residents to see at the borough building until final adoption.Council also anticipates no increase for garbage collection for 2011.Council is also attempting to sell a mower deck and a 1998 Ford Crown Victoria police car and yellow 1997 Ford 350 dump truck. Council has received two estimates of the police car's value.Council anticipates the money received from the sale of the mower will pay for new tires for the mower and a the purchase of a new self-propelled mower.Rehrig said that since Sue Pywar, council member and playground committee chairman, was absent, there was nothing new to report about the playground, but that the repairs anticipated to be made by Playworld Systems six weeks ago, were not done.
