The Carbon County Election Board put the finishing touches on preparations for the upcoming municipal election.

On Thursday, the board voted to appoint 16 registered electors to serve as precinct election officials who will be filling vacancies in a number of districts.The following Carbon County residents will serve as precinct election officials on Nov. 2:• Franklin Township: Harrity - Brenda Eckley, judge of elections.• Jim Thorpe: First - Patti Jo Blum, clerk; Fourth - Erin Rae Joseph, judge of elections; Tara Marzen, clerk.• Lansford: Brenda Chasarik, clerk; James Rickert, minority inspector; Adrienne Vasiliou, majority inspector.• Lehighton: Harry Procina, judge of elections.• Nesquehoning: JoAnn Cox, clerk.• Palmerton: 47th - Steve Agostinelli, judge of elections; Susan Olivia, clerk; 49th - Wendy M. Searfoss, judge of elections.• Summit Hill: Harmony Smith, clerk; Patti Mansberry, clerk.• Weissport: Marsha Mertz, minority inspector; Marion Straub, clerk.In other matters, Lisa Dart, director of the Carbon County Bureau of Elections, announced the voter registration totals for the upcoming election.The total of eligible electors is 38,421. Of that total, 19,386 are Democrats; 14,187 are Republicans; 2,092 are no affiliation; 726 are Independents; 201 are Libertarians; and 1,829 are other parties.She reminded voters in Jim Thorpe and Lansford that there are two new polling locations.Jim Thorpe voters who voted in M&D Awards will now go to Jim Thorpe Memorial Hall; and Lansford voters who voted in the Kracum building will now vote in the Lansford AMVETS.Dart also reminds residents that the deadline to submit absentee ballots is Oct. 26.
