PV, Marian fall short in SIAL golf

Blue Mountain captured its 13th consecutive Schuylkill League golf championship at the Indian Hill Country Club Thursday afternoon.

The Blue Eagles had a team total of 340. Pottsville (365) finished in second in the four-team playoff. Panther Valley (390) was third and Marian (397) placed fourth.After losing to the Colts twice in the regular season, the Panthers (16-2, 12-2) got the better of them yesterday."It was very windy and wet," said Panther Valley coach Larry Marek. "We were playing the course for the first time. In no way is that an excuse, but it was a course where you had to play position golf and our guys kind of didn't know where they were going."I am very happy," said Marek. "This group of kids has been with me for a long time and I am definitely going to miss them. They have been a great group."Matt Tucker led Panther Valley with a 91. Kory Lopata (95), Mike Hadesty (100) and Scott Nevenglosky (104) rounded out the scoring.For Marian, Josh Green fired an 86, Chris Postupack had a 102, Eric Mason had a 104 and Nick Kwedar shot a 105.Blue Mountain's James Bromwell and Jamie Cresswell shared medalist honors on the par-72 course with 84s.FIELD HOCKEYPen Argyl-Northern LehighNorthern Lehigh blanked Pen Argyl at home, winning 5-0 in Colonial League play.The Bulldogs were led by Heather Chandler and her two goals. Olympian goalie Justin Kaminski made 10 saves.Tamaqua-Blue Mt.Tamaqua handed Blue Mountain its first Schuylkill League loss of the season, edging the Blue Eagles, 1-0.Cody Estremera scored the game's only goal at the 31 minute mark of the second half. Lance Williams had the assist.Tamaqua finished with a 15-5 advantage in shots.
